The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) is accepting applications for its Future Leaders Program for young researchers and recent graduates in international relations from Hungary and abroad. The fellowship runs from October 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, initially in-person in Budapest and then online in the final month.
Purpose of the Program
• Involve young researchers and recent graduates in HIIA's work.
• Deepen participants' knowledge of Hungarian foreign policy.
• Provide professional mentorship and research opportunities.
• Engage fellows in analyzing HIIA’s strategic priority areas.
• Offer extensive educational and professional training, including seminars on foreign policy, leadership skills, public speaking, and media training.
Research Topics
• Regional Studies: Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, Visegrád Cooperation, Transatlantic Relations, Middle East, Turkic States, Asia-Pacific.
• Thematic Studies: Security Policy, Energy Policy, Multipolarity, Global Geopolitical Issues, Connectivity.
Application Requirements
• Recent graduates (minimum bachelor's degree) with an interest in foreign policy.
• Early career international relations analysts under 30.
• Required documents: CV (max two pages), cover letter (max one page), writing sample (max 5000 characters including spaces).
• All documents must be submitted in English.
Key Dates
• Application deadline: July 19, 2024
• Interviews: July 22 - August 1, 2024
• Results announcement: August 3, 2024
• Fellowship start: October 1, 2024
• Fellowship end: January 31, 2025
General Conditions
• The program is split into two phases: in-person in Budapest (Oct 1 - Dec 20, 2024) and online (Dec 21, 2024 - Jan 31, 2025).
• Conducted in English.
• HIIA provides a fixed-term contract with a gross amount of HUF 1,400,000 (approx. 3600 EUR).
• Additional funding for international fellows includes round-trip travel and HUF 450,000 (approx. 1160 EUR) for accommodation.
